Platform scope

Kestelwick is designed to organise, present, and support the review of structured information within a defined subject area. The platform does not cover all topics and is not intended to function as a comprehensive reference library or an open repository.

The breadth of coverage within each subject area varies. Some categories contain a substantial volume of classified material; others may contain only a small number of items at any given time. The availability of content in a given area should not be inferred from the presence of that category in the navigation alone.

Content within the platform is selected and classified by the Kestelwick team. This is not a platform to which members of the public can freely contribute. The editorial scope is determined by the team in line with the platform's defined purpose.

Classification decisions

Each item within Kestelwick is reviewed and placed within one or more categories based on its subject matter and its relationship to other content already in the system. Classification decisions involve judgement about the item's primary focus, its appropriate level within the category hierarchy, and any cross-references that may be useful to users.

Classification is not automated without human oversight. Where an automated process assists with initial placement, the result is reviewed before an item is made visible within the system. The team retains the ability to reclassify, remove, or amend the placement of items at any time.

Users who believe that an item has been misclassified or that a category does not accurately reflect its contents are welcome to raise this through the enquiry form. The team will review such observations, though it does not commit to making changes in every case.

Known limitations

The following aspects of the platform represent its current limitations. These are presented transparently so that users can make informed decisions about whether Kestelwick meets their needs.

  • Coverage is not uniform across all subject areas. Some categories are more fully developed than others.
  • The platform does not provide real-time content. Updates are made as the team reviews and classifies new material, not on a live or automated basis.
  • Cross-references between items are added editorially and may not capture every meaningful relationship between classified content.
  • The accuracy of individual items within the platform depends on the accuracy of the source material. Kestelwick does not independently verify every item it classifies.
  • Search functionality, if present, reflects the classification structure rather than operating as a full-text search across all content.

Maintenance and updates

Kestelwick undergoes periodic maintenance to review and update its classification structure, add new content, and address any technical issues. During maintenance periods, parts of the platform may be temporarily unavailable.

When the classification structure is adjusted — for example, when a category is renamed, merged, or subdivided — internal navigation and cross-references are updated accordingly. Users who have bookmarked specific areas of the platform may need to navigate from the main structure if a previous URL no longer resolves as expected.

No schedule for maintenance or content updates is published in advance. Users who require access to content that may have changed are advised to revisit the relevant category rather than relying on previously cached or saved material.

The access process

Access to Kestelwick is arranged through a request and review process. The process involves the following steps in general terms:

  1. The user submits an enquiry through the contact form, selecting "Access Request" as the request type and describing their intended use.
  2. The Kestelwick team reviews the request to confirm that the platform is likely to be a suitable match for the user's stated needs.
  3. The team may ask for additional information before making a decision. This is standard practice and does not imply any presumption against granting access.
  4. If access is agreed, the team will communicate the next steps, which may include confirmation of the terms under which access is granted.

The process does not have a published timeline, and the team does not commit to a specific response period. Users with time-sensitive requirements are advised to mention this in their enquiry.
